24th October
Today at game time we all started / finished our real game boards and instructions. Aidhan and Nathan drew characters because apparently their game board was too big and they couldn't be bothered to "lug it" all the way to school. Bring it next time!!!!

I DESPISE Scott for making me reflect on what I learnt this year, if only I could remember what I had written last year, hmmmm....

I suggest that we RECORD what we are doing throughout the year so that we don't need to reflect as much, oh well:(

It wasn't too bad because we only needed to write about how experiencing Pakiki Kids has helped us, or what we enjoyed etc. bananarama blah bla

Today in games we chose our board and finished our instructions. In our instructions we had to include the contents, how to play, set up and scenario. Next week is the deadline for finishing the games and then we have two more weeks to start and finish our display board.

Today we started a unit on beliefs. Firstly, we started off with a brainstorm on what we already knew about beliefs. At the end of the unit we will come back and write what we now know in a different coloured pen. We brainstormed religions we already knew and wrote them down, including other beliefs, like political, cultural and psychological. We also had some words that we had to decide whether they were related to beliefs or unrelated to beliefs. e.g. proof, religion and conviction. Something we found hard was actually placing some words in a particular place as a class, because everyone thought differently. This was really interesting because we all strongly thought that a word should go in a different place. e.g. proof and evidence.

To start off the day we learned about the belief consequentialism which is believing that an action is good if the consequences are good. We learned that the most common form of consequentialism is Utilitarianism and their quote is "The greatest good for the greatest number". We saw a video of Michael Sandel using the trolley cart scenario on students at Harvard. The question is : "You're driving a trolley cart on a track and the brakes don't work, ahead there are 5 workers on the track and if you stay on the track the 5 workers will be killed but then you notice a track going of to the right with only one worker on it. Will you turn the cart? " In our class most people chose to kill the 1 person instead of the 5.

At game time we did instructions. We had to analyse instructions of other board games. It was quite easy because you just had to type down what the instructions were. Some of the more complicated games were tricky and we hope to finish the instructions next week. Luke and Christopher

Today at Passion / Talent time Matthew and Connor mucked around with their powerpoint and finished it.They recorded their sound recording.Jake started his powerpoint on tanks. Luke did his power point on future cars and noticed they are all one seaters. Finn analysed age of empires and is finding that lots of things are historically accurate. Aidhan, Nathan and Casper planned their play and started their storyboard. William made his chess keynote more visually appealing and planned his Pakikilandia study. Lauren answered some difficult questions about ballets origins.Aaron wrote a story about ghosts .Madeline read books and planed an art project.Annie went on the computer to make a lama wiki.Christopher did a story to go with his art. by Matthew, Connor, Jake

Ethics:Consequentialism
This morning we started learning about consequentialism as part of belief systems.Consequentialism is all about the consequences of what you do.Consequentialists say you only do a good act if the consequences are good & an act is bad if the consequences are bad.We looked at Micheal Sandel talking about the Trolley Car thought experiment. You are a trolley car with stuffed brakes. But the steering wheel works. You are approaching the end of the track. There are five workers.Off a side track there is one worker.Either way you are going to kill the 1 or the 5 workers. You can not hop out the car or stop it.Would you turn or go straight ahead? Most PK kids said to turn, because you would kill 1 instead of 5. Then Sandel said pretend that instead of being on the cart you are on the bridge and there is a large person you could push off and save the workers, but the large man would die. Would you kill one to save 5?
